C.A.S.H. Pruning: A Smarter Approach to Tree Care

Tree Pruning

Overview

Morvin Tree Pruning believes in a goal oriented approach to tree pruning. By clearly stating objectives we are able to make corrections to your tree that will benefit both you and the tree itself. We have created the acronym C.A.S.H in an effort to guide choices on what needs or wants you may be looking for. This, in turn, will save you CASH via efficient and consistent communication. Containment, Aesthetics, Safety, and or Health cover the majority of all goals/objectives for trees. Below we have listed some considerations to help choose what is best for your trees long term success.

Containment

  • Is my tree’s growth rate and current size compatible with its current space limitations?
  • What infrastructure on my property could my tree be affecting?
  • Is my tree affecting vehicle passage, foot traffic, lawn mowing, neighbor’s property boundaries etc?
  • Is my tree dominating surrounding vegetation with competing roots or sunlight restrictions?

Aesthetics

  • Is my tree’s curb appeal an asset to my home value?
  • Which shape should I be training it to; Vase, Pyramidal, Oval, Conical, Columnar, Weeping, Fountain, Spreading etc?
  • Is my tree better suited for a natural or tight look?
  • What is the general vantage point for my tree?

Safety

  • What targets are in the “danger zone” of my tree?
  • What are these target’s value?
  • Where are the structural weak points of my tree?
  • How will my tree react in weather events?

Health

  • Are any dead, dying, and or diseased branches going host pests or diseases?
  • Has a heavy density of live branches created a microclimate in the internal canopy?
  • Is there more tree parts than production of carbohydrates and water absorption can maintain?
  • Was previous malpractice a cause of my tree’s stress?
